Kocaeli Mayor visits Western Thrace for series of engagements
On Friday, July 25, Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tahir Büyükakın conducted a series of official visits in Western Thrace, Greece, as part of his trip to attend the memorial ceremony for Dr. Sadık Ahmet, a prominent figure in the Turkish minority community.
During his visit, Mayor Büyükakın met with key figures in the region, including Turkish Consul General in Gümülcine Aykut Ünal, Mufti of Komotini İbrahim Şerif, and Mufti of İskeçeand President of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board Mustafa Trampa.
In a statement shared on his social media accounts, Büyükakın said:
“Today in Western Thrace, we strengthened the bridges of the heart with our compatriots.
We visited our Consul General Aykut Ünal in Gümülcine to learn about ongoing efforts in the region.
We also held valuable meetings with Gümülcine Mufti İbrahim Şerif and Mustafa Trampa, Mufti of İskeçe and President of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board.
Türkiye will always stand by our brothers and sisters in Western Thrace, supporting their efforts to preserve their identity, faith, and cultural values. We will continue to be their voice and breath.”
Mayor Büyükakın’s visit was viewed as a reaffirmation of Türkiye's continued support for the Turkish minority in Greece.
