High wildfire risk issued for Rhodope region on July 22

The General Secretariat for Civil Protection, under the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, has issued a Category 3 (High) wildfire risk alert for the Rhodope (Rodopi) region for Tuesday, July 22.

According to the official fire danger map, authorities have banned access to high-risk forested areas for both individuals and vehicles. Only residents, workers, and those passing through main roads are exempt from the restriction.
The areas under temporary entry ban include:
- Nymfea (Yanıköy) Forest
- Wooded area near Meşe Beach
- Profiti Ilias recreational area (within the municipality of Yassıköy)
- Sapci (Sapçı) Grove
- Woodlands near Imaret Beach
- Krioneri (Soğuksu) coastal forest
The Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Civil Protection Directorate has urged the public to exercise extreme caution and strictly avoid the following activities:
- Burning dry grass or branches
- Igniting cleaning waste
- Using spark-producing machinery (e.g., grinders, welding equipment)
- Lighting barbecues in open areas
- Using smoke devices in beehives
- Discarding lit cigarette butts
- Officials also reminded the public that field burning is strictly prohibited throughout the wildfire season.
- Anyone who detects a wildfire is urged to immediately call the emergency number 199.
