In celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8, the Rodopi Unit of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace will organize a special art exhibition and symbolic lighting event focusing on the theme of “Women”.

The exhibition, hosted in collaboration with the Rodopi Artists Association ‘Athinion’, will be open to visitors on March 6, 2026 (Friday), from 09:00 to 15:00, at the first-floor event hall of the Rodopi Unit building, the former prefecture in Gümülcine.

Celebrating Women Through Art
The showcased artworks will explore the multifaceted roles of women in society and highlight their ongoing struggle for equality, offering visitors a thoughtful and artistic perspective on women’s contributions to cultural, social, and economic life.

In addition, the Rhodope Unit building will be symbolically illuminated on March 8, creating a visual tribute to women in the region.

Official Statement
Emmanouil Tapatzas, Deputy Governor responsible for the Rodopi Unit, emphasized the importance of recognizing women’s role in social and economic life and the need to continue working toward a society founded on equality and respect.

“The contributions of women are vital to building an inclusive and equitable community. Celebrations like this remind us of the ongoing efforts necessary for social progress,” Tapatzas stated.

The event invites local residents and visitors to reflect on the achievements and challenges of women, while promoting cultural awareness through art.
