Gümülcine Municipality expands lifeguard coverage for Summer 2026, increasing safety measures at key beaches

The Municipality of Gümülcine has announced an expanded coastal safety plan for Summer 2026, deploying six lifeguards across its most visited beaches, in a move aimed at enhancing visitor safety and boosting tourism readiness.

The decision was finalized during a municipal committee meeting held on Wednesday, April 22, where the final contractor for the lifeguard services tender was selected. The single bid submitted for the project was approved.

Expanded Coverage and Increased Budget
Under the new plan, lifeguard services will cover both Saryer Beach and Mesi Beach throughout the summer season.

The number of lifeguards has increased from four in 2025 to six in 2026, pushing the total project budget above €300,000.

Coverage will include:

  • A 1,200-meter coast stretch spanning Saryer Beach and the adjacent Fener Beach
  • A 1,000-meter space at Meşe Beach
  • Installation of six lifeguard towers across designated zones
  • Operational Requirements and Equipment

The contracted company is required to recruit and deploy:

  • At least six certified lifeguards
  • Two head lifeguards (one per beach)
  • Three rescue boat operators
  • Three additional lifeguards assigned to rescue boats

Each lifeguard will be equipped with a professional motorized rescue boat of at least 3.3 meters in length.

In addition, each beach will feature:

  • A jet ski (minimum 2.75 meters)
  • A motorized inflatable speedboat (minimum 5 meters)
  • Service Period and Hours
  • Lifeguard services will operate daily from June 1 to September 30, 2026, including public holidays, between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

Boosting Coastal Safety and Tourism
Municipal officials emphasized that the enhanced safety measures reflect a broader strategy to improve beach infrastructure and ensure a secure environment for both residents and tourists visiting the Rhodope coastline.

The initiative is expected to strengthen the region’s appeal as a summer destination while aligning with European standards for coastal safety management.
