Gümülcine Municipality and Rhodope Chamber of Craftsmen and Tradesmen launch recycling partnership

The Municipality of Gümülcine and the Rhodope Chamber of Craftsmen and Tradesmen have joined forces to promote recycling awareness across the city. A meeting was held at the municipal building on Wednesday, October 29, to discuss effective implementation of recycling practices and ways to increase business participation in the process.

The meeting was attended by Gümülcine Mayor Yannis Garanis, Deputy Mayor for Cleaning and Recycling Kimon Lehoudis, Rhodope Chamber President Theodoros Savvakis, First Vice President Apostolos Tarnanas, and Gümülcine Municipality’s Head of Cleaning, Collection, and Recycling Nikos Stergiadis.

Officials from the municipal Department of Environment, Cleaning, and Recycling shared the challenges faced by field teams and emphasized the importance of recycling for both environmental protection and improving the city’s appearance. They highlighted the need for proper waste separation at the source, adherence to collection schedules, and effective waste volume management to prevent contamination of materials in blue recycling bins.
Both sides agreed that public awareness is crucial to achieving these goals. To that end, they decided to launch a joint information campaign, which will include:

Organizing an educational seminar,

Producing and distributing informative materials to businesses and institutions, and

Creating a promotional video to encourage recycling participation.
