Government ministers to visit Meriç ahead of Thessaloniki International Fair
Greece’s New Democracy government is preparing a five-day tour of 17 prefectures across northern Greece ahead of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ visit to the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF).
The ministerial visits are scheduled to take place from August 31 to September 4, with the tour concluding shortly before Mitsotakis travels to Thessaloniki for the annual trade fair.
According to information reported by dnews.gr, the prefectures assigned to individual ministers were selected by New Democracy Secretary Konstantinos Kyranakis, based on citizens’ demands and the responsibilities of each ministerial portfolio.
The visits will focus on projects that have either already been completed or are currently underway, as well as issues affecting residents’ everyday lives.
The government’s broader aim is to demonstrate its presence in a number of prefectures where New Democracy faces political challenges and send a message that these areas have not been left behind.
Ministerial schedule for Evros
Several government officials are scheduled to visit Meriç (Evros) during the five-day tour:
Monday, August 31: Deputy Minister of Migration and Asylum Sevi Voloudaki
Tuesday, September 1: Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis, Alternate Minister of Health Eirini Agapidaki, and New Democracy Secretary Konstantinos Kyranakis
Thursday, September 3: Minister of Environment and Energy Stavros Papastavrou and Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis
The visits come as the government prepares for the annual political and economic agenda-setting that traditionally accompanies the Thessaloniki International Fair.
