Adem Bekiroğlu, one of the founding members and former presidents of WTMGA, passed away.

Lawyer Adem Bekiroğlu, one of the founders and former presidents of the Western Thrace Minority Graduates Association, passed away on Thursday, April 6th.

Adem Bekiroğlu,  who had health problems for a while, was 84 years old.

Born in the Kızılağaç village of Komotini in 1939, Adem Bekiroğlu studied at the Komotini Hayriye Madrasa for two years after completing primary school in his own village.

Adem Bekiroğlu, who later went to Egypt, won the English Philology Department after completing his secondary and high school education there.

After his studies in Egypt Bekiroğlu, came to the Aristotelio University of Thessaloniki during the lateral transfer, enrolled in the Faculty of Law.

Returning to his hometown after graduation, Bekiroğlu served for many years as one of the first Turkish Muslim lawyers in Komotini.

Bekiroğlu, one of the founding members of the Association of Western Thrace Minority Graduates, also served as the chairman of the association.

Adem Bekiroğlu, who also served as the chairman of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board, also took part in the legal struggle of minority associations as a lawyer and as human and minority rights activists.

Bekiroğlu, who was married to Mediha Bekiroğlu, had two children, Hakan and Özlem.

Adem Bekiroğlu was also the grandfather of three grandchildren.

Bekiroğlu will be buried in Komotini Kahveci Cemetery after the afternoon prayer that will be held tomorrow (Friday, 7 April).
