The inaugural Rhodope Agricultural Development Conference will address the challenges facing the agricultural sector in the Rhodope region and discuss the demands of local producers.

Organized by the Rhodope Professional Farmers Entrepreneurs Association in collaboration with the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Region and the Municipality of Komotini, the conference is scheduled for Friday, January 24, 2025, at the Chris & Eve Hotel, beginning at 10:00 AM. The event is also supported by the Rhodope Agricultural Associations and the Thrace Tobacco Producers Cooperative.

Key Topics:
The conference aims to tackle pressing issues such as:

The impacts of climate change on agriculture.
Hydro-economic infrastructure and the development of dams.
Sustainability and future perspectives of cotton production.
Implementing a carbon footprint program in Thrace.
The future of tobacco production and support for tobacco farmers.
New Common Agricultural Policies (CAP), programs, and subsidies.
The role of OPEKEPE (Payment and Control Agency for Guidance and Guarantee Community Aid).

Conference Objectives:
A statement from the organizers emphasized:

“Long-standing inefficiencies and infrastructure deficiencies in the Rhodope region have led to significant declines in farmers' incomes. Climate change has become a daily reality, and global economic crises have further exacerbated the challenges faced by the agricultural sector. This conference seeks to bring together farmers and stakeholders to discuss these pressing issues, foster effective communication between local and central authorities, and develop tangible proposals for rural development in the region.”

The event promises to serve as a vital platform for shaping the future of agricultural policies in the Rhodope region.
