Fires under control in Western Thrace
Fires were brought under control in Alexandroupoli and Rhodope regions. Some of the forest fires that have been affecting the region for days have been extinguished, while cooling works continue in some parts.
It was reported that the fire, which started in the Evros province and formed a large front of 15-20 kilometres towards the Rhodope province, was brought under control as a result of the intervention of the air, land and the people of the region.
In the Rhodope region, it was reported that the fire between the villages of Kayrak, Payamdere, Kalenderköy, Omurluköy and Ircanhisar was extinguished.
On 21 August Monday, the fire that started in Çepelli, Büyük Müsellim, Susurköy, Narlıköy and Kozlardere villages continued towards the Bulgarian border, while the flames were far away from the settlements and extinguishing works were reported to be continuing.
It was also stated that the fire continued in Çamlıköy (Dadia) forest in Meriç region.
