FEP Party delegation participates in 2026 EFA General Assembly in Spain
The FEP Party delegation included Party President Çiğdem Asafoğlu, Human Rights Expert Pervin Hayrullah, and EFA Vice President Kerem Abdurahimoğlu.
The first day of the General Assembly focused on political priorities for the European Union, with panel discussions addressing EFA’s strategic objectives, working groups, and forum activities.
As Coordinator of EFA’s Linguistic and Minority Rights Working Group, Kerem Abdurahimoğlu presented the group's activities and priorities. He stated that the group's primary objective is to increase the visibility of minority-related issues at the European level while simultaneously strengthening EFA’s presence in minority regions across Europe.
During his presentation, Abdurahimoğlu highlighted challenges faced by the Turkish minority in Western Thrace, including issues related to national identity recognition, limitations on minority and educational rights, and instances of hate speech. He also noted that minority representatives have faced legal proceedings for supporting the community’s elected religious leaders.
The same day, EFA’s leadership visited the Municipality of Gandia, followed by a public event held in the city’s central square, attended by General Assembly participants.
On the second day of the assembly, delegates voted on proposals submitted by working groups and member parties. Among the resolutions adopted were the Linguistic and Minority Rights Working Group’s motion titled “Safe Minorities – Safe Europe” and the FEP Party’s proposal entitled “Combating Minority Phobia.”
During the General Assembly, the FEP Party delegation also met with EFA President Lorena López de Lacalle, Members of the European Parliament Diana Riba, Anna Miranda, and Vincent Marzà, providing updates on current issues affecting the Turkish minority in Western Thrace.
The 2026 EFA General Assembly concluded with the traditional family photo of participating delegates and representatives from member parties across Europe.
