€10,000 relocation incentive for moving to Meriç Region in Greece

In an effort to revitalize its depopulated border regions, Greece has launched a new incentive program offering up to €10,000 to individuals and families who relocate to specific municipalities in the Evros (Meriç) regional unit.

Program in Effect Since July 31, 2025
The initiative targets permanent settlers in the municipalities of Soufli (Sofulu), Didymoteicho (Dimetoka), and Orestiada (Kumçiftliği). The financial aid aims to encourage population growth and social cohesion in these northern border areas.

Who Is Eligible?
The program supports both individuals and families who commit to permanent residency in the designated areas. The amount of financial support varies based on the size of the settlement and the number of children:

€10,000: For those relocating to villages with fewer than 500 residents
€6,000: For settlements with more than 500 residents
+€1,000: Per child (up to the €10,000 maximum cap)
Payments will be disbursed by the Greek Social Welfare Agency (OPEKA).

How to Apply?
Applications must be submitted online via: relocation.vouchers.gov.gr

Objective of the Program
Backed by the Greek Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family, the €10 million pilot program seeks to reverse the population decline in border areas and breathe new life into the region. If successful, it could be extended to other parts of the country.

This incentive presents a significant opportunity for individuals seeking rural living while contributing to the rejuvenation of Greece’s frontier communities.
