EMT civil protection receives tractors and water tankers
The Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection is strengthening civil protection services in the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (EMT) with the transfer of 10 vehicles under the national “AIGIS” Civil Protection Programme.
The Regional Committee of EMT has approved a programme agreement under which the ministry will transfer ownership of the equipment to the region to help meet its operational and civil protection needs.
The AIGIS programme includes targeted measures aimed at strengthening civil protection infrastructure and technical equipment, improving the skills and knowledge of human resources, integrating information and communication technologies, and promoting innovation in the field of civil protection.
As part of the programme, the ministry has procured mechanical equipment and will transfer ownership of it to EMT. The region will use the equipment exclusively for operational and administrative needs related to its participation in civil protection actions, within the scope of its responsibilities and services to citizens.
The equipment transfer is intended to modernise the region’s mechanical resources, improve the operation of its services and increase their effectiveness in responding to civil protection needs and serving the public interest.
Under the agreement, EMT will receive three earthmoving tractors equipped with rear rippers, along with seven water tanker vehicles, each with a capacity of 10,000 litres.
The equipment is expected to strengthen the region’s operational capacity in responding to emergencies and civil protection incidents, including situations requiring heavy machinery and water supplies.
Following the transfer of ownership, EMT will assume responsibility and expenses for the lawful and safe use, operation, storage and insurance of the equipment. The region will also be responsible for necessary consumables and maintenance work not covered by the contractor’s contractual obligations.
During the guaranteed operation period, however, responsibility and costs related to routine maintenance, the repair of faults and ensuring the equipment remains operational will continue to fall on the contractor.
Once the guaranteed operation period expires, the region will assume full responsibility and costs for maintenance, repairs and the continued safe and effective operation of the equipment.
The contract for the tractors has already been signed by the ministry. The seven water tankers will be delivered once the contract-signing process for the vehicles has been completed.
EMT is set to strengthen its civil protection capabilities with 10 vehicles provided under Greece’s national “AIGIS” programme.
