Egnatia Odos maintenance works in Rhodope to continue through end of 2026
Long-term maintenance works on the Egnatia Odos motorway in northern Greece are set to continue through December 31, 2026, with phased traffic measures ensuring that vehicle flow remains uninterrupted.
Scope of Works and Affected Section
The project will cover the stretch between the Iasmos Interchange (545.6 km) and the Mesti Interchange (591.7 km), impacting both directions of traffic—toward Kipi (Greek-Turkish border) and Igoumenitsa (western Greece).
Planned works include:
- Asphalt resurfacing
- Replacement of safety barriers
- Structural inspections
- Repairs of technical infrastructure
- The project is being overseen by Nea Egnatia Odos S.A., with construction carried out by TERNA S.A. as the main contractor.
Traffic Measures and Safety Protocols
Authorities confirmed that traffic will not be fully halted at any point, with works carried out gradually and only during daytime hours to minimize disruption.
Temporary traffic arrangements will include:
- Adjusted lane usage
- On-site construction signage
- Early warning systems for drivers
- All signage and safety measures will comply with national road traffic regulations, ensuring maximum safety for drivers and workers.
Key Dates and Restrictions
Traffic measures will officially take effect on April 14, 2026, and remain in place until the end of the year. However, no construction activity will take place during:
- Major public holidays (e.g., May Day, Assumption Day, Christmas)
- High-traffic periods, including:April 30 – May 4, 2026
- May 29 – June 2, 2026
- August 14 – August 17, 2026
- October 27 – October 29, 2026
- December 23 – December 31, 2026
- Summer weekends (June 13 – September 6, 2026)
