Edirne Governor: Türkiye Stands Ready to Assist Greece in Battling Devastating Fires
Edirne Governor Yunus Sezer said that they are ready to help Greece in the fight against the ongoing fires in Alexandroupoli and Rhodope cities.
Sezer, in his statement to the press members, reminded that the fires continue on the Greek side.
Stating that the risk of fires spreading to the Turkish side is not seen much, Sezer said, "But we have still taken our precautions."
Emphasising that the neighbouring country is ready to help in line with the request of the neighbouring country, Sezer continued as follows:
"We have conveyed to Greece that we will help Greece at the point of disaster and fires. At this point, our General Directorate of Forestry is prepared at the point of aerial vehicles. Again, we also have a preparation at the local level, both at the point of arozozes, fire brigade and similar vehicles. We would also like to state that we are ready to help when the Greek side needs it."
The fire that broke out in Alexandroupoli on 19 August could not be brought under control due to the strong winds that were effective in the region.
In the Rhodope province of Western Thrace, where Komotini and its villages are located, the fire, which affected the villages where Turks are in the majority yesterday, headed towards the mountainous area today.
