Digitalization project to modernize transport archives in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace
Greece's Ministry of Digital Governance has announced a €2 million project to digitize the physical archives of the Transport and Communications Directorates across the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Region, aiming to improve public services and reduce bureaucracy.
The initiative will begin as a pilot project in Dedeağaç and Kumçiftliği, where more than 600,000 files and approximately 20 million documents will be converted into digital format.
Speaking at the project's presentation in Dedeağaç, Deputy Minister of Digital Governance Christos Dermencopoulos said the transition to digital archives would accelerate administrative procedures, reduce waiting times and facilitate access to public records for both citizens and professionals.
Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis described the project as a significant step toward the region's digital transformation, adding that the initiative is expected to expand to Gümülcine, İskeçe, Kavala and Drama in the future.
According to regional authorities, the Transport and Communications Directorates across the region currently maintain around 2 million physical files and 68 million documents occupying nearly 1,700 square meters of archive space.
