Deputy Zeybek brings the problems of breeders to the parliament

New Left Party Xanthi MP Hüseyin Zeybek submitted a parliamentary parliamentary question to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food in order to address the problems faced by livestock breeders.

MP Hüseyin Zeybek's parliamentary question is as follows:

"The Greek Livestock Breeders' Association has invited the whole sector to join the protests to draw attention to the ongoing efforts to reduce producer prices and unfair trade practices, despite the high costs of feed, energy and other costs.

In particular, he drew attention to the decline of agricultural and livestock holdings, the decline of livestock and the ongoing social and demographic change in rural areas:

1. Take urgent measures to reduce production costs.
2. Protection of producer prices from unfair trade practices, implementation of strict controls and rules.
3. Completion of the control mechanism process with "ARTEMIS 2".
4. Legislation on the protection of barn facilities as well as the first residence of farmers and animal breeders.
5. Zero VAT application on basic foodstuffs such as milk, meat, olive oil, etc., which will mainly benefit the consumer in this difficult period we are going through, and for the absorption of our animal products.
6. Immediate implementation of measures to fully compensate breeders and farmers affected by fires and floods in the Evros and Thessaly regions, which are important centres of livestock and agricultural production. Creation of appropriate infrastructure to enable them to continue their production.

The livestock sector is in despair and is now facing survival problems.

Since the risk of further decline in livestock breeding is now clearly evident.
Exorbitant production costs will lead to shortages of animal products.

Since Greek producers contribute to the country's Gross National Product, it is the state's obligation to support them.

Ask the minister:

1. How does the Government intend to halt the catastrophic situation for livestock farming, including milk producers and the processing of their products?
2. What specific measures does it plan to take to ensure that livestock breeders can continue to buy feed, to support milk prices, but also to intensify and co-ordinate controls?
3. Does the government intend to eliminate VAT on basic foodstuffs, as other countries have done (e.g. olive oil in Spain)?
4. Will the government finally proceed with the nationwide implementation of "ARTEMIS 2"?
5. What legislative initiatives does the government plan to take to protect the businesses and houses of livestock breeders and farmers from auctions due to their debts to banks?"
