Criminal complaint from spokesperson of Greek Helsinki Monitor to ND Deputy
Greek Helsinki Monitor and Humanist Union of Greece Spokesperson Panayote Dimitras filed a criminal complaint against MEP Michalis Kefalogiannis, who recently complained about the webinar about Turkish minority associations organized by the ABTTF, by writing to the president of the European Parliament.

Dimitras filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office on the grounds that Mihalis Kefaloyannis made statements containing "defamation" and "slander" against both himself and the Greek Helsinki Observatory.

According to the statement released by Kefalogiannis, the Greek Helsinki Monitor is a “non-existent institution”, Panayote Dimitras is “the person who filed a criminal complaint against the Greek Coast Guard forces guarding the country's borders” and by participating in the webinar organized by the ABTTF recently, made an attempt to “undermine peace and stability in Europe”.

Spokesperson Dimitras stated that Kefalogiannis had defamed and slandered himself and the Greek Helsinki Monitor in the statements he made on the subject, and brought the matter to the judiciary.

Reminding that the Greek Helsinki Monitor has been operating for nearly 30 years, Dimitras stated that he has not filed a criminal complaint against the Greek coast guards, and that the criminal complaints against the Coast Guard were made by international organizations due to human rights violations.

Responding to Kefalogiannis' statements regarding ECtHR decisions that were not implemented by Greece, Dimitras reminded the last report of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe that warned Greece.

Regarding Kefalogiannis' accusations against ABTTF, Dimitras emphasized that ABTTF is an international non-governmental organization that can work in the United Nations (UN) and the Council of Europe.
