Consulate General in Komotini hosts “Journey of Coffee” event
On December 5, 2024, the Turkish Consulate General in Komotini and the Komotini Club co-hosted the “Journey of Coffee” event, bringing coffee enthusiasts together in a warm, cultural gathering.
The event commenced at 4:00 PM, with Turkish Consul General Aykut Ünal and his wife, İlayda Ünal, personally welcoming attendees. In his opening remarks, Consul General Ünal highlighted the historical and cultural significance of coffee, calling it a unifying tradition across the Aegean.
Tracing coffee’s journey from Ethiopia to its global prominence, Ünal reflected on its role as a symbol of connection and its place in proverbs such as, “A cup of coffee is remembered for 40 years of friendship.” He humorously noted coffee’s rise as a social media icon, encouraging attendees to savor the moment.
The evening featured live music, traditional treats like Turkish delight, and engaging conversations among attendees, fostering cultural ties and camaraderie.
The event welcomed notable figures, including local leaders, religious representatives, and parliamentarians, underscoring its broad participation and friendly atmosphere.
