Construction of the new Komotini Hospital to start
Work for the construction of the New Komotini State Hospital begins on Saturday, November 4. The construction of the new hospital, which has been planned to be built for many years, is finally starting. The contractor company AVAX is expected to deliver it at the end of 2026.
The new hospital is being built with a donation from the Stavros Niarhos Foundation, as part of the "International Health Initiative" worth more than 1 billion euros. The “National Health Initiative” includes the construction of the new Komotini State Hospital, as well as the Sparta (Sparti) State Hospital and the Thessaloniki Pediatrics University Hospital.
At the meeting held at the REX Cinema in Komotini on Wednesday, November 1, it was emphasized that the hospital is expected to be delivered at the end of 2026. Deputy Minister of Health Marios Themistokleus was also present at the meeting.
Before the meeting, officials from the Ministry of Health, the Stavros Niarhos Foundation and the contractor company inspected the area where the hospital will be built.
The new hospital with 180 beds will have 8 intensive care beds (which can increase to 14 if needed). In addition to the 16-bed pediatric department, 5 beds will be reserved for newborns. The new hospital will also have 15 beds for psychiatric cases, 15 dialysis units, 6 operating rooms and a helipad.
