Case of Mufti Mete and Imam Azizoğlu heard today
Mete and Azizoğlu's trial took 7 hours, the verdict is tomorrow.

The lawsuit filed by the Mufti of Xanthi Mete and imam Azizoğlu against those who made false testimony and false news against them was discussed today.

The lawsuit filed by the Mufti of Xanthi Mete and imam Azizoğlu against those who made false testimony and false news against them was discussed today. The case, which was discussed at the Xanthi courthouse, lasted approximately 7 hours. However, the judges left the decision until tomorrow. The decision will be announced tomorrow, Wednesday, May 25, at 11:00.

The lawsuit filed by the Mufti of Xanthi Mete and Imam Azizoğlu against those who slandered them with false testimony and false news was discussed on Tuesday, May 24. The hearing, which started around 11:00 in the morning, lasted about 7 hours.

Witnesses were heard in the lawsuit filed by the Mufti of Xanthi Ahmet Mete and its imam Erkan Azizoğlu against the owner of Machitis newspaper Panos Papadopoulos, former ANEL party member Chrisa Outsi, Nuri Farzlı, and former appointed Mufti of Xanthi Mehmet Emin Şinikoğlu. The parties made their defense. Mufti Mete was represented by his lawyer Giannis Barkas in court, which he did not attend due to his illness.

The father of the deceased soldier Ahmet Katunlu was heard as a witness in the court. What his father said once again proved that the news made was unfounded.

What has happened?

Mufti Mete and village imam Erkan Azizoğlu filed a lawsuit against the aforementioned people for perjury and slander against them at the funeral of young soldier Ahmet Katunlu from Gökçepınar in 2016, and for the fake news made by the Mahitis newspaper.

Mete and Azizoğlu were tried on baseless charges.

As it will be remembered, a lawsuit was filed against the Mufti of Xanthi Ahmet Mete and the Imam of Gökçepınar, Erkan Azizoğlu, alleging "extortion of office" and "obstructing the appointed mufti's duty" at the funeral of Ahmet Katunlu, who lost his life while doing his military service in 2016, in the village of Gökçepınar.

Mete and Azizoğlu were tried on the charges of perjury, testimony, and unfounded accusations of the defendants in question and were sentenced to 7 months in prison each.

Mufti Mete's 7-month prison sentence from the first-instance court was concluded for 4 months in the court of appeal. It was decided to postpone the execution of Mufti Mete's sentence for 3 years. Gökçepınar village imam, Erkan Azizoğlu, who was tried in the same case, was acquitted of both charges.

We will write the details of the hearing, which lasted for approximately 7 hours after the decision is announced tomorrow.
