A meaningful solidarity event was held on Sunday, December 7, in the courtyard of Karacaahmet Mosque in Shahin village to raise awareness about the humanitarian tragedy unfolding in Gaza.

Organized by the İskeçe Mufti’s Office and the Shahin Qur’an Course, the charity fair aimed to support orphaned children and draw attention to the ongoing suffering in Palestine. The event attracted a large turnout, creating a heartfelt and emotional atmosphere.

İskeçe Mufti Mustafa Trampa attended the event, standing in solidarity with the students and families of the Shahin Qur’an Course. As the courtyard, decorated with Palestinian flags, echoed with children’s chants of “Freedom for Palestine,” banners highlighted the unwavering commitment of Western Thrace Turks to the Palestinian cause.

A Call Rising for Gaza
Held under the slogan “Now is the Time for Solidarity – Don’t Leave Orphaned Children Alone,” the event sought to raise public awareness of the continuing tragedy in Gaza. For months, thousands of Palestinian families have been struggling to survive under Israel’s attacks, with children bearing the heaviest burden of the violence—an issue that deeply moved participants.

Students and parents who worked at the food and donation stalls emphasized that all proceeds would be used exclusively for the benefit of Palestine. Throughout the event, attendees expressed both a spirit of solidarity and the spiritual comfort of sharing in Gaza’s suffering.

“Our Responsibility as a Community Is Great”

In his address, Mufti Mustafa Trampa underscored the importance of unity and compassion in such difficult times:

“The oppression in Palestine burns all of our hearts. By gathering here today, we stand with our brothers and sisters and lend our voice especially to the children left orphaned. The sensitivity of the people of Shahin always makes us proud. Similar events have been organized across many Qur’an Courses under our Mufti’s Office, each one meaningful and valuable. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all of them.”

A Bridge of Solidarity from Western Thrace to Palestine

The charity fair was more than a fundraising event—it symbolized the deep emotional bond between the Turkish community of Western Thrace and the Palestinian cause. The banners carried by children, the homemade treats prepared by mothers, and the generous contributions of participants together formed a heartfelt gesture of hope extended to the oppressed people of Gaza.
