Burhan Baran calls for strengthening the fire department in Xanthi
In his statement, Baran emphasized the need to strengthen the local fire department, particularly in the Xanthi region, due to the increased risk of fires caused by climate change. He noted:
"In our region, and especially in the mountainous areas of our prefecture, which are covered by large forested areas, it is necessary and crucial to strengthen the presence of the Fire Department, not only during the fire season but year-round, due to extreme weather events affecting our country as a result of climate change. I have previously raised this issue in parliamentary questions. Fires in our area have led to the destruction of a significant portion of our forest ecosystem, loss of property, and, unfortunately, loss of human life.
I hope my call is heard by the relevant Ministry, and that appropriate measures are taken to help our district become more resilient to similar situations in the future."
