Arrest of human traffickers in Evros and Rhodope

On Friday, January 10, 2025, three human traffickers—two foreign nationals and one Greek—were arrested in separate incidents by police from the Alexandroupolis and Rodopi Police Departments. The traffickers were involved in smuggling illegal migrants into Greece.

In the first incident, early in the morning near a village in Evros, officers from the Alexandroupolis Police Department stopped a foreign trafficker driving a car without a valid driving license. He was transporting five illegal migrants. Initially, the driver refused to stop for the police and attempted to flee on foot, along with three of the migrants, but was apprehended in a rural area.

In the second incident, two other traffickers, including a foreign driver lacking a driving license, were arrested on the Alexandroupolis-Komotini section of the Egnatia Highway. They were found transporting two illegal migrants.

The authorities seized the vehicles, a sum of money, and mobile phones. The arrested individuals will be brought before the relevant prosecutors, and investigations are ongoing by the Border Patrol Units of Alexandroupolis and Rodopi.
