Agriculture Ministry responds to wild boar damage in Ihanlı Municipality
The Ministry of Rural Development and Food has issued a response to a parliamentary question by Independent MP for İskeçe, Burhan Baran, regarding damage caused by wild boars to farmland in the Ihanlı Municipality area.
The ministry stated that the Hellenic Agricultural Insurance Organization (ELGA), under existing legislation, covers damage caused by wild animals such as wild boars to crops and livestock. Farmers are eligible for compensation only if they file an official damage report with ELGA.
The statement noted that the area, including zones protected under the Ramsar Convention, is among those affected by wild boar damage. However, no applications for compensation have been submitted by farmers in the region to date.
The ministry also said it is working with the Agricultural Research Institute and other relevant bodies to develop scientific methods for controlling wild boar populations. Legislative measures to protect agricultural production are also under consideration.
Additionally, issues raised in the parliamentary question that fall under the jurisdiction of the Ministry for Citizen Protection and the Ministry of Environment and Energy have been forwarded to those ministries.
