'8 March International Women's Day' celebrated by ABTTF
ABTTF's statement reads as follows: "The General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) decided on 16 December 1977 to declare 8 March as 'International Women's Day' in order to draw attention to the rights of women and to promote women's political and social awareness on the basis of human rights." It is emphasised that the UN has set this year's Women's Day theme as "Invest in women: Accelerate progress".
In the message issued by the ABTTF Presidium on the occasion of 8 March International Women's Day, it was stated that: "With our sincerest feelings, we celebrate 8 March International Women's Day of all women, especially the women belonging to the Turkish community in Western Thrace, with the hope of a world where discrimination and violence against women come to an end and women live freely and safely in an equal and fair environment. We salute our women who are at the forefront of the struggle for rights and freedoms of the Turkish community in Western Thrace with the associations they established despite all the difficulties and we would like to state that we, as ABTTF, are always with them in their struggle for our Turkish identity and culture."
