Greek Women’s Water Polo Team wins European bronze
The Greek women’s water polo team secured a bronze medal at the European Championship in Funchal, Portugal, defeating Italy 15-8 in Thursday’s third-place match.
Under coach Haris Pavlidis, Greece finished the group stage with five wins out of five but fell to Hungary in a semifinal shootout earlier this week.
Thursday’s victory ensures a podium finish for the third consecutive tournament, marking the sixth medal in the history of the women’s European Championships, alongside four silvers and two bronzes.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis congratulated the team on social media, calling it “another great achievement for our national team.”
The result mirrors the men’s recent European success, when Greece captured its first continental medal in Belgrade last month.
