English Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion has completed the signing of 18-year-old forward Charalampos Kostoulas from Olympiakos, in a high-profile move that sees the promising Greek talent leave behind a Champions League opportunity for English football.

Kostoulas, a Greece Under-21 international, has agreed to a five-year contract with Brighton. Though the club did not disclose financial details, reports suggest the transfer fee is valued at an initial €35 million ($40.4 million).

“It is a dream for everybody to come here and play football,” Kostoulas said in his first interview with Brighton, published on Friday.

The young striker was a standout performer in the Greek Super League last season, scoring seven goals in 22 appearances and helping Olympiakos secure a historic 48th league title. He also contributed to the club’s domestic cup triumph, completing a domestic double.

Despite Olympiakos qualifying directly for the newly structured Champions League group phase — benefiting from title-holders Paris Saint-Germain having already secured a spot via Ligue 1 — Kostoulas opted to test himself in the Premier League. Olympiakos will now compete in an eight-game single-table format in the Champions League's new season.

Brighton, which finished eighth in the Premier League and missed out on European qualification, sees Kostoulas as a long-term investment for its attack.

Kostoulas also played a leading role in Olympiakos’ UEFA Youth League victory in 2024, where he led the Under-19 team to European success just a month before the senior squad captured the UEFA Europa Conference League.
