Authorities release last of 105 facing charges for Nea Philadelphia soccer violence in August
The last of 105 suspects charged after last August's violent incidents outside the AEK FC stadium in Nea Philadelphia, which resulted in the fatal injury of AEK supporter Michalis Katsouris, were released from custody on Friday.
The examining magistrates granted the last of the petitions submitted by the prisoners being held on remand in connection with the case, allowing all of the 102 Croatian supporters of the football club Dinamo Zagreb, as well as two Greeks and one Albanian national, to be released from prison with conditions.
The releases on Friday mark the conclusion of a process that began 10 days earlier, when the first 40 prisoners were released pending trial. Earlier, additional testimony had been taken in connection with new charges brought in the case and individual acts of damaging private property.
