Battery life, speed and privacy shape smartphone choices

Battery life, performance and privacy protection are among the factors influencing consumers’ decisions when choosing their next smartphone, alongside personal interests, lifestyle goals and individual style.

A new survey conducted on behalf of Samsung among 5,001 consumers across five European countries examines what frustrates users about their current devices and which features influence their next purchase.

According to the findings, 66% of respondents chose their current smartphone with at least one personal interest in mind, highlighting the growing connection between technology choices and everyday lifestyles.

Personal ambitions influence technology decisions

The survey found that nearly half of respondents, or 46%, consider their personal aspirations when making technology-related decisions.

For 24%, purchasing choices are primarily shaped by the lifestyle they want to pursue, while 28% said they selected their smartphone to better reflect their personal style.

These interests range from entertainment and hobbies to gaming, travel and content creation, suggesting that consumers increasingly view smartphones as tools that support both practical needs and personal ambitions.

Smartphones become an extension of personal style

The findings indicate that smartphone purchases are influenced by more than technical specifications alone. Consumers also consider how devices fit their interests, routines and desired lifestyles.

As manufacturers compete to attract buyers, battery performance, processing speed and privacy features remain important considerations alongside design and features tailored to different activities.

The survey highlights the role of personal preferences in shaping smartphone demand across European markets.
