Woman killed by train at level crossing

A woman has lost her life when she was hit by a train at a level crossing in the Athens district of Sepolia.
Hellenic Train said the train involved was the 4.45 a.m. service from Piraeus to Athens Airport.
“Hellenic Train expresses its deep sorrow for the tragic accident, which occurred early in the morning, when a woman violated a level crossing and was hit by a train running the Piraeus-Airport route, on the section between Athens and Agioi Anargyri,” the company said in a statement.
“The accident had the tragic consequence of the woman losing her life. The company expresses its sincere condolences to her relatives.”
The company said the accident caused temporarily delays and cancellations but services have now been restored.
