Very high fire risk on Tuesday for five regions, authorities warn
A very high fire risk (Category 4) has been forecast for Tuesday in five regions across Greece, the General Secretariat of Civil Protection announced.
According to the Fire Risk Forecast Map issued by the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, the affected areas include:
Central Greece (Viotia, Evia)
Peloponnese (Corinth, Argolida)
North Aegean (Lesvos, Chios, Samos)
Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Meriç (Evros)
Authorities have placed state and local services on high alert, with enhanced ground and aerial patrols planned. A precautionary ban on access to forests, national parks, and high-risk zones will also be enforced in the affected areas.
The public is urged to avoid any outdoor activities that could spark a fire, including the burning of vegetation, use of machinery that produces sparks, outdoor grilling, and discarding lit cigarettes.
In case of fire, citizens are reminded to immediately call emergency number 199.
