Varoufakis: We are all involved in this crime against humanity, we have been silent for decades
Mera25 Party Chairman and former Finance Minister Yannis Varoufakis said about the clashes between Hamas and Israel: "We are all involved in this crime against humanity. We have been silent for decades. We are silent until there is a problem there, until people die, until the cameras reach there".
Casualties are increasing in the clashes that started with Hamas' attack and Israel's response.
Former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis made striking statements about the ongoing tension. He said that the problem in the region stems from the violence and racism practised by Israel. Varoufakis stated that the main culprit is the Western world, which has been silent about Israeli violence for years.
Varoufakis pointed to the historical background of the tension between Israel and Palestine and blamed the Western community.
"WERE BLACKS RESPONSIBLE IN AFRICA?"
Explaining that the starting point of the events was Israel's systematic racist politics and violent methods, Varoufakis cited the racism against black people in South Africa as an example.
He referred to the violence inflicted on blacks by the then African government in favour of white supremacy and asked, "Were blacks responsible for what happened there?"
He said that the real problem was discriminatory and racist policies.
"PALESTINIANS LIVE IN PRISON"
Underlining that Palestinians live in a prison, the Greek politician said that those who are subjected to racism and discrimination will either die or revolt.
Continuing his statements, Varoufakis pointed to the Western world as responsible for what is currently happening in the region. "We are all involved in this crime against humanity. We have been silent for decades. We are silent until there is a problem there, until people die, until the cameras reach there."
Varoufakis said: "The criminals are us, the Europeans. Every single member of German, French, Greek and US society is guilty," he added.
Former Minister Varoufakis added that the Western world must take a decisive step towards peace in order to redeem itself.
