A sequence of two apparently related accidents within minutes of each other on Saturday afternoon on the Egnatia Odos in northern Greece left two people dead and two others lightly injured.

In the first incident, a car traveling on the Ioannina-Igoumenitsa section reportedly crashed into a semi-trailer, possibly due to a slippery road surface caused by a hailstorm. The driver was killed.

Emergency motorway crews arrived promptly to respond. During the operation, one crew member is believed to have been struck and killed by a passing vehicle. Details surrounding the second fatality remain unclear, with initial reports conflicting.

The victims, along with the two injured, were transported to Ioannina General Hospital.

Traffic congestion has been reported along the affected stretch of the motorway as authorities managed the aftermath of the incidents.
