Tsipras meets with Finnish politicians in Athens

SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Alexis Tsipras met with visiting Vice-President of Finland's Parliament Antti Rinne in Athens on Friday. Rinne is also former prime minister and former leader of the Social Democratic Party.

The main opposition party leader also met with Finland's Chairperson of the Parliamentary Group of the Left Alliance, Jussi Saramo.

Finland's decision to join NATO "should be respected, as it was taken by the Finnish people," noted Tsipras. However, Tsipras added, in order "for this decision to be supported, it should not lead to a breach of Finland's rule of law and arms embargo in countries conducting offensive operations, such as Turkey."

Above all, he added, "it should not lead to NATO bargaining over the sale of aircraft to Turkey, given its aggressive actions in the Aegean Sea."
