Ruling party leads in latest poll

Greece’s ruling party is leading ahead of legislative elections on May 21, a poll revealed late Monday.
Some 31.6% of the respondents said they would vote for the conservative Nea Dimokratia (ND) party, according to a poll by opinion research firm ALKO carried out from April 18-22 with the participation of 1,000 respondents, private broadcaster Alpha TV announced.
ND was followed by the leftist main opposition SYRIZA party with 25.4% and the social democratic PASOK-KINAL party with 8.9%, it added.
Some 6.1% of respondents expressed support for the Communist Party of Greece, while 3.8% said they would vote for the far-right populist Greek Solution party.
In addition, according to the poll, former Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis’ leftist party MeRA25 is projected to garner 3.7%, and the National Party, the neo-Nazi party founded by jailed former Golden Dawn official Ilias Kasidiaris is forecast to attract 3.2%.
Meanwhile, 11.2% of voters still remain undecided prior to the elections, it added.
