Rania Thraskia declared independence
After the recent independences of Evangelos Apostolakis, Yiannis Sarakiotis, Theodora Tzakri, Giota Poulos, Alexandros Avlonitis, Kyriaki Malama, Rallia Christidou, Petros Pappas, as well as the previous expulsion of Athina Linou, the SYRIZA-PS parliamentary group numbers 26 MPs, while the independents amount to 24.
SYRIZA-PS MP for Thessaloniki A , Rania Thraskia, sent a letter of independence from the Central Committee of the former Main Opposition party.
The independence will be announced shortly in the plenary session of the Parliament. In her statement, she notes that the mandate of those who trusted her obliges her to take a clear position. She is the ninth MP to leave SYRIZA-PS after what was announced at the recent extraordinary party congress (8-10 November).

The Declaration of Independence
When in May 2023, Alexis Tsipras proposed to me to be a candidate for parliament in the 1st district of Thessaloniki, the promise I made to my fellow citizens was that I would enter politics with logic and sensitivity, for Thessaloniki and Greece.
With firm commitment to the same principles and values and upholding my commitment to my fellow citizens in Thessaloniki, I announce my independence, which I submitted to the President of the Parliament.
The mandate and support of those who trusted me obliges me to take a clear position on what has happened.
I will continue my parliamentary work unwaveringly, as I have done until today and since the first day of my election, for a just society, for citizens who do not simply survive, but prosper, for a better, public and modern school, the cradle of the dreams of young people, for a Special Education that will embrace students with disabilities, for Mental Health policies that will protect everyone from the trap of violence that plagues our society. For a state that will finally stand next to the citizen and not against him.

SYRIZA: Returning the seat to the party is the only way out
"The plan of certain centers to liquidate SYRIZA-PS has its drawbacks. Rania Thraskia's decision seems to have already been made," commented SYRIZA PS and demanded the return of the seat.

"The left-wing, progressive world has already given, with its massive participation in the polls, a resounding message of support for SYRIZA-PS, against the institutional deviation that deprived the party of this position. The same will happen in the next critical period for society and the country. SYRIZA-PS has turned a page, is getting stronger and will reliably respond to the demands of progressive citizens ," the announcement added.
And he concludes: "We will not do them any favors. The plans of entanglement will fail. We are moving forward for the great social and political progressive change with a stronger, larger and united SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance ."
