Panos Routsi ends hunger strike after exhumation request approved

Routsi’s protest, launched as part of his broader demand for justice and transparency in the ongoing investigation into the deadly railway disaster, drew widespread public attention and support.
KKE statement
Responding to the development, the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) issued a statement crediting the outcome to “the struggles of P. Routsi and all the victims’ relatives, as well as the support of the people and youth.”
The party accused the New Democracy government and judicial authorities of initially adopting an “intransigent stance” toward what it described as “self-evident just demands.”
KKE also warned that continued vigilance was essential to prevent a potential cover-up of the case. It emphasized that only through public pressure and collective action could true justice be secured. “Final justice will come by overturning the very causes that led to the crime, and ensuring the punishment of all those responsible—no matter how high up they are,” the statement read.
The Tempi train collision, which occurred in February 2023, remains one of the deadliest rail disasters in Greek history. Investigations into the causes and accountability continue.
