Municipalities to close on December 19 in protest over state budget

The Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE) announced on Wednesday that all municipalities across the country will stage a “symbolic shutdown” on December 19, a day before Parliament is scheduled to vote on the new state budget.

As part of the protest, local government officials will also hold a rally outside the Parliament building in central Athens on the same day.
During a meeting of the union’s board, KEDE President Lazaros Kyrizoglou said that an extraordinary general assembly will convene on December 17 at a central Athens hotel to discuss the new Local Government Code and related financial issues affecting municipalities.
