MoU on Greek-British cooperation in higher education signed at ministry event
An event on Greek-British cooperation in Higher Education was held on Tuesday at the Education, Religion and Sports Ministry, at which the British Council, the British Embassy and Study in Greece signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
Education, Religion and Sports Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis and the British Ambassador in Athens Matthew Lodge participated in the event, as well as acclaimed personalities from the area of international education.
In his speech, Pierrakakis referred to the specific meeting which promotes the further strengthening of the strategic internationalisation of higher education between Greece and the UK. "The MOU signed today marks the further enhancement of the cultural, diplomatic and historic ties between the two countries, while increating a strong framework for cooperation between our universities. The goal for us in the Ministry is two-fold and clear. On the one hand to support Greek public universities in adopting policies of openness and collaboration with foreign universities and, on the other hand, to establish a stable framework so that Greece soon becomes a regional education hub".
Ambassador Lodge, in statements to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, highlighted the importance of the agreement between the Greek education ministry, the British Council, the British Embassy and Study in Greece, calling it a very important partnership. He noted that education has for years been one of the pillars of bilateral relations between the two countries, and a sector in which the UK seeks strong and active growth.
