Meningitis alarm in Greece: 15 cases reported since the beginning of the year

According to data from the National Public Health Organization (EODY), there have been 15 cases of meningitis reported across Greece since the beginning of the year, with two fatalities.
One of the recent cases involves a 14-year-old middle school student who was diagnosed with meningitis at Ippokratio Hospital in Thessaloniki. The student is currently receiving treatment in the hospital’s Special Infectious Diseases Unit, and their condition is stable with positive progress in the treatment process.
The EODY has been notified of the case, and has instructed that chemoprophylaxis be administered to individuals who were in close contact with the student in the last three days.
The ongoing situation has raised concerns, as meningitis cases continue to emerge, highlighting the need for increased vigilance and preventive measures.
