Mayors send a letter to Defense Minister Panayotopoulos

The mayors of Sofulu, Dimetoka, Orestiada and Alexandroupoli within the borders of the province of Evros each sent a letter to the Minister of Defense Nikos Panayotopoulos regarding the closure of the Recruit Training Center units located within the provincial borders.

Alexandroupoli Mayor Yannis Zamboukis, Sofulu Mayor Panayotis Kalakikos, Orestiada Mayor Vasilis Mavridis, and Dimetoka Mayor Ramilos Hatzigiannoglou sent a letter to Defense Minister Nikos Panagiotopulos regarding not closing the Recruit Soldier Training Center units located within the borders of Evros province.

In the letter regarding the decision of the Ministry of Defense dated 12 December 2022, the mayors were reminded that the military units in question have been operating since 2018.

It was stated in the letter that this sudden decision would have negative consequences for the community in the region, both economically and maintaining a high sense of security.

In the last part of the letter, the mayors demanded the annulment of the said decision from the Minister of Defense Panagiotopoulos.
