Kaselakis party loses two MPs
The political formation of Stefanos Kasselakis, Democrats – Progressive Center, has lost two lawmakers within weeks, with independent MP Myrto Korovesis announcing her departure from the party and Michalis Hourdakis officially joining PASOK’s parliamentary group.
Korovesis cites strategic uncertainty
Korovesis, who had only recently entered parliament after replacing Giorgos Karameros, announced her decision to leave the party, describing it as a decision of conscience after a long period of reflection.
In a statement, she said the move was driven by her commitment to political independence, personal principles and the way she believes public service should be carried out.
Although she said she would not publicly detail all the reasons behind her decision, Korovesis criticized what she described as the party’s unclear political direction and repeated changes in strategy and priorities.
Korovesis had taken the parliamentary seat as the second alternate candidate on the SYRIZA ballot for Eastern Attica in the June 2023 elections. The first alternate candidate, Christos Spirtzis, declined the seat.
Hourdakis joins PASOK
Meanwhile, independent MP Michalis Hourdakis officially joined PASOK’s parliamentary group following a meeting with party leader Nikos Androulakis.
Androulakis welcomed Hourdakis, a professor of medicine at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, saying his experience would contribute to PASOK’s policy development, particularly on demographic issues.
He said political parties must present comprehensive programs ahead of the next national elections and highlighted the need for solutions to challenges facing the country.
Former Kasselakis ally changes course
Hourdakis said Greece needs a serious, reliable and progressive alternative government and expressed his intention to contribute his political and academic experience to PASOK’s work.
He had previously left Kasselakis’ Democrats – Progressive Center in June, saying his decision followed a long period of consideration and reflection on his political path and responsibilities toward citizens.
He said there are moments in politics when consistency requires recognizing that a chapter has come to an end.
