Information campaign on plot clearance and fire prevention

The Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection is implementing a public awareness and information campaign aimed at strengthening prevention against the risk of wildfires breaking out and spreading during the current fire season.

According to a ministry announcement, the campaign highlights the importance of clearing and regularly maintaining plots of land and open spaces by removing dry grass, branches and waste materials, which can act as “ fuel” for a wildfire. As noted in the announcement, these clean-up measures reduce combustible material, a key factor in limiting the outbreak and spread of fires.

The campaign messages are once again being promoted through mass media and digital platforms with the support of IPTO (Independent Power Transmission Operator).

On the occasion of the campaign’s launch, the ministry is once again calling on all citizens and relevant authorities to actively contribute to the implementation of the prescribed measures, stressing that they constitute not only a legal obligation but also an act of responsibility for the protection of human life, property and the natural environment.

It is recalled that the deadline for completing clean-up works and submitting the required declaration on the platform akatharista.apps.gov.gr is June 15. The obligation to maintain these areas remains in force throughout the entire fire season, until October 31.

The campaign spot is available at YouTube campaign video. More information can be found on the campaign’s dedicated page on the website of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.
