A Greek owned container ship was reportedly fired upon in the Strait of Hormuz, causing significant damage but no injuries to crew, maritime authorities said.

The vessel, identified as the Liberia flagged Epaminondas, is owned by Technomar Shipping and operated by MSC.

According to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations, the incident occurred about 15 nautical miles northeast of Oman early in the morning. The ship’s master reported that a gunboat linked to Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps approached without warning and opened fire, heavily damaging the bridge.

Authorities said no fire or environmental impact was reported and all crew members are safe.

The vessel had reportedly received permission to transit the strait, but officials are investigating whether that authorization message was genuine.
