Germany demands Greece's Leopard 1A5 GR tanks

According to the information shared by Clash Report, Germany has requested 100 Leopard 1A5 GR main battle tanks from Greece. In this context, the tanks are planned to be transferred to the German government and then delivered to Ukraine.

In return for this offer, Greece will receive Italian Leopard 1A5 main battle tanks. The tanks to be delivered will be repaired by German Rheinmetall and will have new armour with thermal imaging systems.

LEOPARD TANKS WILL BE PRODUCED IN GREECE

According to the Greek City Times, Germany's Krauss-Maffei-Wegmann had plans to produce Leopard tanks with the Greek company Metka. Answering Die Welt's questions, KMW said: "Against the background of the war in Ukraine and the campaign for the complex exchange of weapons systems, a major project is currently being worked on. The possibility of joint production or modernisation of hundreds of old Leopard tanks in Greece is on our agenda."

In addition, it was reported that there were talks with Greek Metka, but no further details were shared on the subject.

According to Greek City Times, the new project is based on the production of the steel hull of the Leopard 1A5 and Leopard 2 tanks. In this context, it was stated that new Leopard production units will not be created and the production line in Germany will not be deployed to Greece. According to the Greek media, during the visit of Chancellor Olaf Soltz to Greece on 27 October, discussions were held on the subject.
