Free afternoon surgeries to start on Thursday
The free afternoon surgeries will start on Thursday, November 28, with resources of 54 million euros from the Recovery and Resilience Fund, government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis said on Tuesday during a press briefing.
More specifically, he said that 37,000 afternoon surgeries will be performed for patients who, according to the unified list of surgeries, have been waiting for more than four months. Patients who have been waiting for more than a year have already been notified and are in the process of pre-operative screening.
"The number of scheduled appointments is expected to increase in the coming days as even more hospitals will participate in the programme," Marinakis stressed.
He added that "the free afternoon surgeries demonstrate in practice what real social policy means. Improving the lives of citizens is our first concern and that is why we continue our efforts by supporting the National Health System, facilitating patients and accelerating procedures, using every appropriate means, such as resources from the Recovery Fund, in such a way as to achieve this goal."
He also referred to the tax bill submitted to parliament. He pointed out that an additional 12 tax reductions and 12 measures to boost citizens' income are provided, as well as provisions for the modernisation of tax legislation and the administrative model that governs the Public Administration for Public Revenue (AADE), with the aim of making it even more effective."
