Fires in Greece under control but flaring up again

Although the fires in Alexandroupoli and Evros in Greece are largely under control on the 12th day, flames are rising again in the region. The Civil Protection Organisation asked village residents to move away from the area. Teams from various countries are supporting Greece to extinguish the fires in the region.

Upon the re-intensification of the fire in the forest area in Demirören (Sidiro) and Yanören (Yannuli) villages, the Civil Protection Organisation asked the residents of the villages to move away from the area.
According to the satellite data of the Forest Fire Observatory (EPADAP), the fire that started on 19 August in Alexandroupoli and Evros burned more than 826 thousand acres until 28 August.
In the province of Rhodope, including Komotini and its villages, it was observed that the fire raged again in the forest area near the village of Kalaycıdere.
Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus (GASC), Germany, Bulgaria, Serbia, France, Czechia, Romania, Slovakia and Albania are supporting Greece in extinguishing the fires in the region.
