Farmers say ‘yes’ to dialogue with government
After more than a month of farmer protests, the government’s renewed call for dialogue has received a positive response.
Farmer representatives announced that, as a first step in the talks, a nationwide meeting will be held this weekend to form a committee representing farmers. The committee is expected to meet with the Prime Minister on Tuesday, Jan. 13.
Starting Friday, protesters’ tractors will remain parked along roadsides, but major highways will be reopened to traffic. Government officials said the dialogue process can begin only after road blockades are lifted, stressing that the farmers’ committee must represent all regions of the country.
The upcoming talks aim to address farmers’ current demands and explore possible solutions.
