Far-Right leader Latinopoulou criticizes government, migrant policy in controversial remarks

Afroditi Latinopoulou, leader of the far-right Voice of Reason party, delivered a pointed critique of the New Democracy government on Monday, accusing Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis of fostering corruption and calling for stricter measures on migration.

In an interview with Skai TV, Latinopoulou alleged that the government had created a system benefiting “cronies, associates, migrants, and other groups,” and claimed that state-linked “cartels” controlled sectors including energy and supermarkets. She did not provide evidence to support these assertions.

Latinopoulou also made controversial statements regarding migrants, advocating for their relocation to uninhabited islands such as Gyaros and Makronisos. She emphasized that Greek neighborhoods should primarily be occupied by Greek citizens.

In addition, she proposed revisiting the death penalty and suggested chemical or surgical castration for individuals convicted of sexual offenses against minors, stating, “When we are talking about the lives of children, conditions have changed and we must change as well.”

The government did not immediately respond to her comments.

A recent Marc poll released on Sunday placed her party at 2.4%, below the 3% threshold required for parliamentary representation.
