Fallen diplomat Sipahioğlu commemorated in Athens Ceremony
A memorial ceremony was held at the Turkish Embassy in Athens to honor Ömer Haluk Sipahioğlu, a Turkish diplomat who was assassinated in 1994.
Sipahioğlu, then Deputy Chief of Mission at the Turkish Embassy in Athens, was martyred on July 4, 1994, in a heinous attack by the 17 November terrorist organization.
The Turkish Embassy in Athens shared a message on its official social media account, stating:
“We commemorated our Deputy Chief of Mission Ömer Haluk Sipahioğlu, who was martyred in Athens on July 4, 1994, in a treacherous attack by the 17 November terrorist organization, with mercy, gratitude, and respect in a ceremony held at our Embassy.”
The ceremony marked 31 years since his assassination and served as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by Turkish diplomats in the line of duty.
